Mike And Cynthia Gibson "....Our collaborative efforts are a natural extension of our marriage. There is a unique satisfaction and pride that we share. We are truly fortunate to be creative together. “
Steve Schlumpf “Everything in flatwork deals with precise angles, mating surfaces and joinery. When I started turning all those limitations went out the window and I felt absolutely free because for the first time I was actually creating curves!" Quote from Steve Schlumpf.
Robin Costelle Robin Costelle has been turning wood since 2004. By asking questions and becoming friends with a few great turners and mentors, he learned much, gaining knowledge  about woods and tool usage.
Vaughn McMillan “Well, I could wax poetic about how I love the ‘mystery of a piece of wood, and the joy of discovering the beauty hidden inside’ – and true as it may be, that’s what other woodturners always seem to say.
Ed Koenig Ed Koenig is a true artisan.  Influenced profoundly at a very young age, he found his style and integrated his gifts to create treasures for the rest of the world.
Mark Cothren I enjoy turning wood and making curls. I love seeing what colorful and grainy surprises God has put in there under the bark! I get a great deal of pleasure from seeing a rough log start turning round and opening up to show what is inside. From tree, to log, to blank, to rough out, to finish turned, to sanded and finished!
Keith Burns "I love finding a discarded piece of wood which is destined for a fire place or the landfill, or obtain an exotic piece of wood,  mount it on my lathe, and gently awaken the natural beauty found inside."

Welcome to Woodturners America

The Artisan Woodturner

When you’re a woodturner, you view turning in a different light than everyone else. The non-turning observer simply sees the cutting away of material into fancy shapes, useful table legs, the occasional bowl or platter. In fact, some turners see woodturning that way as well. And that's OK. Artisan woodturners see it a little differently, though. When they drive down the road, they watch for fallen trees. When they see a landscaping service hauling away tree scraps, the artisan woodturner sees a truckload of possibilities. Every knot in a tree and every crooked old cherry sends the mind of the artisan woodturner to fanciful thoughts of what "might" be.

At the lathe, they combine tenacity and force with finesse and precision, carefully trying to coax an unrevealed beauty from a discarded piece of wood. This gives the tree new life, and perhaps more appreciation than it had in the forest. The artisan woodturner loves the character uncovered.

Here, at Woodturners America, our artisans dedicate their hearts to the traditional love of the beauty that lies beneath the bark. Really, they’re just regular folks. You wouldn't know it if you met them in line at the grocery store. But at the lathe, you see it in their eyes, and the way their hands gently test the freshly cut curve as the piece spins at a thousand RPM. Woodturners America is a showcase of a group of some of the finest woodturners. You'll see a glimpse of their character in the pictures of their work, but if you read on, you'll see it in every facet of their lives. Their turnings are a self portrait.
